Obituary

FRAMINGHAM: Francis J. "Frank" Donahue, 96, a resident of Framingham for many years, passed away peacefully Saturday Sept. 12, 2020 at home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of the late Claire T. (Sullivan) Donahue with whom he shared 67 years of marriage before her passing in 2015.

Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Francis H. and Katherine (Brown) Donahue, and was a graduate of Boston English High School. A proud veteran of the Army serving during World War II, Frank was a radio and wire specialist with the 3rd Cavalry Recon Troop in the European Theater and earned the rank of Sergeant. Honorably discharged in 1946, Frank was a graduate of Northeastern University. He worked for many years as a salesman for Carter Rice Storrs and Bement, and later as a sales manager for International Paper until retiring. He enjoyed golf and bowling and travel with his wife. Frank was past commander of VFW Post 517 in South Boston.

He is survived by his children: Francis J. Donahue, Jr. & his wife Sandy of Schaumburg, Ill, Steven P. Donahue & his wife Paula of Hyannis and Jayne P. Coulson & partner Danny Reilly of Holliston; 4 grandchildren: Michael, Tina, Kelly and Stacy; 7 great grandchildren: Jacob, Kaitlyn, Zachary, Ellie, Caroline, Alyssa and Ethan; a sister: Doris Mae Toronto of Canton, MA. He was predeceased by a brother: Gene Donahue.

Due to Covid restrictions presently in place, his funeral Mass and interment will take place privately. Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made in Frank's name to: Dana Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA. 02284-9168, or online: JimmyFundContactUs@dfci.harvard.edu.

Dear Frank, Steve & Janey,
We were so very sorry to hear of Franks passing, He was always such a great friendly guy - and good to me.
He helped me get my driving license!!
Wish we could do more for you at this time but this coronavirus just complicates everything we would like to do.
I'm most sorry for not being able to be with you at this time, but I'll always have good memories of the times I shared with your Mom & Dad and with the rest of the family.
We will keep you all in our prayers.
Love, Jack & Janice Bakey

I remember Frank for his Kindness. I always liked to draw. I would use the stiff paper inside Dad’s new dress shirts to draw on that you may have thrown away. Then Frank sent over all kinds of paper for me: thick, thin, colors, foil, textured and no lines on them! I was like a preschooler seeing so many crayons for the first time. This was such a gift to me. Over the years, my daughter and family moved next door to Frank and Claire. Frank always chatted with her as he came and went about. I shared with her so many stories of our baseball teams playing Wiffle ball in his tiny yard that we thought was so big; the summer haircuts Claire always gave us, too short and what mom liked. Neighborhoods aren’t the same anymore, and good neighbors are even harder to have. I have much sympathy for all of you at this difficult time, Maureen
