She spent her final days surrounded by her loving family and friends, including her incredible team of caring doctors and nurses.
Born in Fall River, MA, on April 16, 1941, she was the daughter of the late John Panek (born in Massachusetts) and Angela (Burda) Panek (born in Poland) both formerly of Tiverton, RI.
A graduate of the University of Rhode Island in 1963, Joan earned her Bachelor of Science degree with high distinction in a course of study in Pharmacy, becoming a Registered Pharmacist in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Joan is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 55 years, Paul W. Virdinlia, of Framingham. Both before and after retirement, she and Paul lived a truly inspirational life together as they have literally traveled the world on ships, boats, planes, trains, RVs, buses, trucks, cars, and on foot. Their adventures have taken them to all 7 continents, 84 countries, and 46 states. In addition to traveling, they enjoyed spending time together golfing, going to restaurants, attending shows and events, and socializing with friends at the Callahan Senior Center. Joan also loved the warm weather and relaxing in the sun. She was an avid sports fan and really enjoyed watching the Red Sox and the Patriots on TV.
