FRAMINGHAM, MA: Eugene Thomas Coakley, 86, a resident of Framingham since 1962, died peacefully Sunday January 20, 2019 at home. He was the beloved husband of the late Elsie R. (Abelli) Coakley who died in 2014, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage.

Born in Newton, he was the son of the late Daniel J. and Cecilia (Mullahey) Coakley. After graduating high school, Eugene entered the US Army, serving in Korea. After an honorable discharge, he earned a certification as a computer technician from Northeastern University. He was formerly employed by Raytheon, where he joined the bowling league in order to gain the attention of his future wife, Elsie. Eugene always considered his most important job to be that of a Dad. He and Elsie proudly and lovingly raised 3 children.

Eugene continued his career as a computer technician at Honeywell, and eventually worked as a mail handler for the US Postal Service before retiring in 2000. In retirement, Eugene took excellent care of his wife Elsie as her health declined. Their home was an open meeting place for family and neighbors alike. Eugene's kindness, gratitude, and humor made all who met him feel welcome and at ease. He was always quick to give and receive a big "Hello" and a smile at many local Framingham businesses; from the doctor's office, to banks, to the corner garage. In the end, Eugene was a gentle soul who passed gently and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his 3 children: Eugenie H. Coakley of Watertown, Michael J. Coakley of Framingham and Nancy J. Welch & husband Richard of Wells, Maine; a brother; Raymond Coakley of Natick; a sister-in-law: Marilyn Abelli of Tewksbury and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours are Friday January 25th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Boyle Bros. Funeral Home, 173 Union Ave., Framingham. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday January 26th at 10:00 a.m. at St. George's Church, 74 School St., Framingham (Saxonville). Burial will follow in Edgell Grove Cemetery, Grove St., Framingham Centre. For memorial page, please visit
