Obituary for Louise Rivers

FRAMINGHAM: Louise Rivers was born on July 1, 1927 in Manhattan, NY to Alice Manning and Joseph B. Williams, a commercial artist. She died Nov. 24, 2017 at the age of 90 in her home in Framingham surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years Francis John Rivers known as Jack. She is survived by 3 sons: Lloyd Benjamin Rivers, Francis Joseph Rivers, Timothy Hugh Rivers and a daughter Laura R. Evans; 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Louise graduated from the Boston University School of Education and became a first and second grade teacher. She spent summers in Bradford NH at a cottage on Lake Massaseecum where she enjoyed swimming and canoeing. After retiring from teaching, she was an activities director at a nursing home, and on a cruise ship. Later she had a craft business making pocket books which she sold at fairs. She had a life long love of arts and crafts and made beautiful quilts, theorem paintings and puppets. She was an avid traveler, living in Paris for a year with Jack, studying French, and touring Europe on school vacations. She later did cruises in the Mediterranean Sea, the Aegean Sea, and the South Seas as a craft teacher. She studied Spanish and Italian for fun. She was a member of the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church, the Framingham Garden Club, her sewing club, and the Humanist Society. She had many dear friends, a big dining room and loved to entertain. She did volunteer work cooking for the Salvation Army, teaching English as a second language, and teaching garden therapy classes. Loved by everyone who knew her, she will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

A memorial service will be held for Louise at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church, 24 Vernon St., Framingham on Dec. 9, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception at Scott Hall. There are no visiting hours. Kindly visit for memorial page.
