Obituary for Walter E. "Buddy" Jenkins

FRAMINGHAM Walter E. "Buddy" Jenkins, 83, a resident of Framingham for more than 50 years, died Thursday Jan. 8, 2015 surrounded by his family and left the arms of his loving children on his most certain journey to heaven. He was the beloved husband of the late Jacqueline L. (Hickey) Jenkins who died in April 1995.

Buddy was born in Newton on Oct. 22, 1931, the youngest child of the late Maida and Gerry Jenkins. In 1996 he retired from the Newton Police Department after 35 years of service. He was a proud Air Force veteran who was stationed as a young man at Camp Pendleton, Calif. and shared many stories over the years about his time there. He and his son and granddaughter went back to visit the base in 2004 and it was a highlight for him. Buddy was a member of St. George's Parish and the Newton Police Alumni Association.

A devoted father and grandfather, he leaves 5 children: Daniel and his wife Kathi of Ashland, Walter "Buddy" and his wife Claudine of Marlborough, Bonnie Miles and her husband Chuck of Framingham, Glenn Jenkins, and Joann King and her husband James of Framingham. Buddy was adored by his 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and they will miss him immensely. He was pre-deceased by 3 sisters: Margaret Leonard & Myra O'Connell formerly of Newton and Ruth Bullard formerly of Sturbridge. He also leaves several nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. His happiest moments were spent at the many large family gatherings as he watched the chaos proudly from his chair. He also spent many hours enjoying his grandchildren's sporting events and was even named fan of the year for Ashland High School in 2003.

Visiting hours are Monday Jan. 12 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Boyle Bros. Funeral Home, 173 Union Ave., Framingham. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday Jan. 13 at 10:00 a.m. at St. George's Church, 74 School St., Framingham (Saxonville). Burial with military honors will follow in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Fenwick St., Framingham. Memorial donations in his name may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, New England Chapter, 60 Walnut St., Wellesley, MA. 02481.
