Obituary for Walter H. Connery III
FRAMINGHAM Walter H. Connery, III, 75, passed away suddenly Monday, July 18, 2016 while vacationing at his cottage on Prince Edward Island, Canada. He was the cherished husband and soul mate of Barbara (Rooney) Connery of Framingham.
Born and raised in Framingham, he was the only son of the late Walter Connery, Jr. and the late Mary (Keefe) Connery. He was the proud father of 9 children: Debora Clifford and husband Richard, Sharon Bryant, Maureen McIntyre and husband John, Walter IV and wife Lisa, John (Jack) and partner Stephanie Hanna, Michael and wife Tina, Christopher, Joseph and partner Nikki Nearing, and Peter and wife Meridith. He also extended his care and support to a few foster children; Scotty Brown had a special place in his heart. His in-laws include Philip & Patricia Rooney, Maureen Rooney, Deborah & William Matthews and the late Aloysius and Marie Rooney. He was the proud grandfather of Jake, Rusty, Brittany, Nikki, Brianna, Mikella, Shayne, Kara, Joe, Sean, Ryan, Sammi, Bryan, Megan, Fionn, Maeve and Teague; and great-grandfather of Braden, Chloe, Callie, Kayden, Daisy, Teagan, Dylan, Kaleb, Kali, McKenzie, Landon and Camden. Walter was also survived by several nieces, nephews and their families, and by his former wife, Mary Connery.
A U.S. Navy veteran, Walter was a retired Lieutenant with the Framingham Fire Department, and worked primarily at the former Hollis Street firehouse. He most recently served as the manager of Amvets Post # 79 on Superior Drive in Natick. Loved by many, he was a kind and generous man, albeit with a sometimes gruff exterior. He valued and had a great work ethic and was a high school and collegiate sports fan, history buff and prolific reader. A constant champion of the underdog, Walter loved a good time and good cheer. He loved his family and friends very much.
